A Black Woman’s Guide to Self-Care and Love

1. Art
Whether you’re an artist or not, you can learn more about different ways to style your hair or draw how you feel. For example, what you’re currently feeling you can draw it out as a destresser.
Other artistic self-care tips for black women include learning a dance routine, finger painting, and writing affirmation letters. Affirmations are ways to build confidence such as saying or writing, I am beautiful, I am smart, I am successful, etc.
2. Have a Personal Day
Each week, you should have a personal day for yourself. This is a day with no obligations or work. Whatever it is that you want to do whether that’s reading, writing, cleaning, or spending time with your friends.
3. Have Healthy Habits
Celebrate yourself by staying hydrated throughout the day with water, getting enough sleep, and exercise. Cut down on alcohol and junk food. Instead, try out dating apps, sports clubs, etc.
4. Be One With Nature
Don’t find yourself in front of the screen all day, relax and get out in nature. Whether you’re an early bird or night owl, you can watch the sunrise or sunset.
Choose to walk barefoot in the grass and relax. Consider going on nature walks to relax after a long day.
5. Gratitude
Self-care is also about gratitude. Write down what you’re grateful for. Consider keeping a journal that you can write into each day about what you’re most thankful for.
6. Take Baths
Order an interesting book, get a bubble bath or Epsom salt bath going, and relax. You can even add in different essential oils for extra relaxation. To make it a spa day, consider having spa masks, or giving yourself a mani and pedi.
7. Stretch It Out
It’s easy to sit at a desk all day and feel uncomfortable afterward. Instead, incorporate stretches throughout your day to keep the blood flowing, and keep you more comfortable. Whether they’re regular stretches or yoga poses is up to you.
8. Cook
Consider cooking yourself some of your favorite meals. Not only can cooking be relaxing and get your creative juices going, but you can enjoy your favorite meals. Invite a friend over to enjoy your meal as well.
