Great Mindfulness Activities You May Want To Add To Your Weekly Routine
If you’re like many adults, you live some type of stressful life. Between work, family life, and everything in between, there’s always something keeping us busy. Because of this, our daily routines can sometimes become draining.
To keep the mind calm during these everyday routines, look at some great tips and mindfulness activities to practice daily. Doing so will ensure that you’re able to get through the stresses of everyday life with calmness and ease.
Don’t let life cause chaos inside your mind, stay calm by practicing these several simple mindfulness tips listed below!
1. Complete a Body Scan
A body scan is something that anyone can do with little effort. You won’t need any props or practice to begin. To begin, gently lie down on your back with your palms facing up.
Allow your feet to relax and fall about from one another. If you’re not comfortable lying down, then you can also do this activity while sitting in a chair. Just make sure that the chair is comfortable!
Now it’s time to relax your entire body. If any adjustments to the body need to be made, do it with ease and gentleness. Notice your breathing by becoming fully aware of how deep your breaths are and how long they are.
Now, direct your attention to your body. Notice how your body feels such as your body’s temperature or how your clothing feels on your skin. Is there any part of your body that’s sore or heavy feeling?
Note these areas. Then, direct your attention throughout every other aspect of the body. It’s best to do so with your eyes closed so you can get the full effect.
When done, open your eyes and carefully sit up and open your eyes feeling refreshed!
2. Wake Up Early and Positive
Waking up early is a great way to begin your day with mindfulness. By doing this, you’re giving yourself more time to enjoy the day and not feel so rushed in the morning. It’s a hard routine to get into if you’re already used to waking up at a certain time, but it’s worth the effort.
Try setting your alarm clock to go off 30 minutes earlier than normal and gradually work on trying to get out of bed when it goes off. Aside from waking up earlier, also try to wake up with a more positive attitude.
Rather than thinking of all the challenges that the new day will hold for you, try to focus on what positive things it’ll bring you. Even if there’s only one positive thing that you can pull from the day ahead, that’s all you need to complete this exercise. Put your focus into that one thing and start your day!
3. Practice Breathing Exercises
Breathing exercises are one of the top ways to reduce stress. When you breathe in deep, slow breaths that become a rhythm, it signals to your brain to relax. Mindful breathing exercises can be done in the mornings to help start your day, and then any time throughout your day.
When taking your deep breaths, try to put all of your focus on your breathing. As you do this, your heart rate will drop and your mind will be at ease erasing all the stress that you’re expecting from the day or have already been exposed to from the day.
4. Be Aware of Your Thoughts
This is a more difficult one to get in the habit of, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll start doing it without thinking about it. You should try to always be aware of your thoughts. The moment you recognize a negative thought sneak in, stop it.
Unfortunately, many people begin their bad with negative thoughts floating through their minds. This begins a cycle for them. Each day that they wake up, they allow these negative thoughts to fester, and it sets the mood for the entire day.
Don’t be one of these people. Separate yourself from your thoughts and take notice of them outside their connection with your body. Once you do this, you’ll have more power over them and these thoughts won’t have the power to control your emotions anymore.
